EPJ: "The Truth about Thanksgiving"

Julie Borowski explains that the generally told story about Thanksgiving leaves out many important facts, and that there was no huge feast, i.e. Thanksgiving, until the Pilgrims dumped their commie ways for a private property society. In other words, though few realize it, Thanksgiving is a celebration of the plenty delivered because the Pilgrims began to respect individual freedom and private property. (...) >>>

The 2nd Amendment explained -

The American right to carry arms has been greatly misframed in the last few decades by the Leftist, pacifist brigade. Not only are arms essentially morally neutral tools in the hands of evil or good men (do spoons make you fat?), they are a symbol of the fight against tyranny and stand for the constitutional Republic in which the individual is sovereign, not the collective state. Bearing arms makes perfect moral sense. If you take them away from good men, you are in fact arming evil.

Another misconception that is rife in the democratic, collective state is that the state has the 'monopoly on violence'. This fallacy has been hard-pushed by Leftist activists in the judiciary who labor under the pacifist paradigm that all violence is evil. But like guns, violence can be used either for good or for bad. Initiation of violence is evil, but self-defense against it, is essential in a morally just world. Values that aren't defended are de facto no longer values.

In a country like the Netherlands during the last decades it seemed that every form of violence was beyond the pale. People who defended themselves against muggers landed themselves up in jail for excessive self-defense. No sooner the new Right wing government stated that self-defense is legitimate or citizens started defending their property again. The state has no monopoly on violence, it has the 'monopoly on vengeance', but that is quite another matter - Read also: Ethics from the Barrel of a Gun -

PJM: "What Guns Would the Founders Ban?", by Bob Owens

This nation’s founding fathers were brilliant men. The documents they created more than 230 years ago are the bedrock of a system of government that has endured longer than any other. Since our republic was founded, France has gone through five constitutions. European kingdoms that once saw us as a useful foil in their own struggles no longer exist. Russia’s czars have gone to dust; communism has risen and fallen away.

Our enduring Constitution and its Bill of Rights are magnificently clear to all Americans — with the glaring exception of certain individuals and groups. Some even obscure and distort the plain intent of our founders in order to impose their own peculiar political views.

In the modern age, no constitutional declaration of intent has been abused more than the Second Amendment, which plainly reads:
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.
Despite its slightly archaic grammar, it is a simple statement, easily understood. Our young nation had just burst forth thanks to the grit of a disheveled army of citizen-soldiers — one which overcame what was then the greatest military power in the world. From firsthand experience, those citizen-soldiers knew that the civilian ownership of arms suitable for military use was vital, both to their new nation’s existence and to the continued existence of their liberty itself. A shocking example of Obama unbrilliance -

American Thinker: "A Natural Law Lesson for Obama", by Jason McNew

President Obama's editing out of the words "...by their Creator..." from the Declaration of Independence Friday night (video and transcript here) is a remarkable act for sitting president. It suggest that the purported constitutional law expert needs some remedial education.

The Declaration of Independence was drafted by Thomas Jefferson (when he was 33 years old), based on a list of points laid out by a 5 person committee which also included Benjamin Franklin and John Adams. The most famous part (for good reason) of the Declaration of Independence reads (...)

Thomas Jefferson's notion of a Creator in The Declaration of Independence does not have anything to do with establishment religion or dogma (theology); it is strictly a philosophical construct. Further, the idea that all men are equal was a very radical idea in 1776, and its purpose was two fold (...) >>>

Pew Reasearch Center: "Proud Patriots -- and Harsh Critics of Government"

Nearly all Americans consider themselves patriotic and voice pride in being American. Sizeable demographic and political differences do emerge, however, when it comes to intense expressions of patriotism. And many of those who voice strong patriotism and pride in the country also are highly critical of the federal government and its political leaders.

A new national survey by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press, conducted June 24-27 among 1,001 adults, finds that more than eight-in-ten (83%) say they are either extremely proud (52%) or very proud (31%) to be an American. Just 14% say they are moderately proud (8%) or have little or no pride (6%) in being an American. (...) >>>

The early radicals -

Von Mises: "Thomas Paine, Liberty's Hated Torchbearer"

When Thomas Paine's ship pulled into Baltimore harbor on October 30, 1802, a large gathering of friends and admirers were waiting at dockside to welcome him back. Others stood by as well, some filled with loathing, merely to observe a famous figure. Since leaving the United States in 1787 to find a builder for his iron bridge, Paine had authored some of the most incendiary tracts of the 18th century, had been imprisoned and narrowly escaped Robespierre's guillotine, and was widely reported to be a drunk and an atheist. When he journeyed to Federal City on November 5 to pay his respects to the country's third president, he found that he needed an alias and help from a presidential aide to get a room at Lovell's, the city's only hotel. Of black heroes and founding fathers - How the 'progressive' movement worked to make blacks second class citizens so that they themselves might rule over them as a group of victims. This shows you the evil of this dialectic of oppressors verses oppressed and group inequality instead of equal individualism, something the founders knew as no other. The brief history of the militia -

Enter Stage Right: "Liberals fear the militia and that is good", by J.J. Jackson

When the United States of America was being born it was thanks to brave men and women willing to fight against tyranny in ways that today would make many Americans (and certainly most liberal, progressive, socialist so-called Americans) faint. It was these men, the militia, that helped out in ways not often remembered. History often whitewashes the fact that many who fought against the English Crown were not regulars of an organized military but rather men brought up from the fields or who came down from the mountains and who left their homes to take up arms in the fight.

They were not soldiers. The militia lacked the same rigorous training of the normal enlisted man but at the beginning of the war it was all that America had. Lightly armed and without uniforms, these state militias formed of average men provided the firepower to get the ball rolling. It was not until June of 1775 that a regular army was formed by the Continental Congress. As the historic year of 1776 started, a full one third of those fighting for independence were still militia however. (...) >>>

The Christian culture - It's the dialectic, stupid! -

Big Government: "Leftists Have No Right to Strip Faith from American History", by Kerry J. Byrne

The left has been at war with traditional American values for decades: the Founding Fathers, the Constitution, free enterprise, Christianity. All are objects of scorn and ridicule by those who hope to “remake America” – to use President Obama’s phrase – into some sort of leftist utopia on the model of those that have already failed all around the world.

The war on Christianity is a particularly disturbing fight. The battle has been lowlighted over the years by leftists who twist themselves into intellectual knots in an effort to remove Christ from Christmas – which is like trying to remove the wet from water. But the fact that they’re trying to defy the laws of physics doesn’t stop leftists. Their war on American culture took a new turn this week (...) >>>

Introduction to this page
, devoted to all things American: given the host of para-exegesis (deliberate misunderstandings) and simply a lack of knowledge about the origins and ideas that underlie the creation of the United States, this page seeks to further understanding through the compilation of articles and posts pertaining to such issues.

It differs from other dossier-pages on Politeia Articles. As a rule they seek to guide to further in-depth material elsewhere on the web. Americana" may contain lengthy quotes and excepts in order to offer a complete reference work by itself.

The European nations - in founding the E.U. - missed a golden opportunity to right a history-old wrong to enshrine in its cornerstone the sanctity of human equality and individual liberty; instead - as they have done through the ages - they reverted to the pernicious Utopianism through faulty philosophical principles and founded the union instead on coercion and subterfuge in behalf of a perceived collective. This dossier compiles also flagrant comparisons in order to expose the difference between the EU and the USA.

My thanks for the link!

You may want to look at John Fonte's work:

The Ideological War in the West,
Liberal Democracy vs. Transnational Progressivism,
Transnationalist Left and the Transnationalist Right.

They put together the intellectual framework that coalesces around the modern Left, which is not clearly stated on the Left and yet is a cross description of their emergent attitudes.

I try to put a bit more thought into TJP site... DLSF is more expansive on topics, although I do cross-post a few articles one to the other. Most of my terrorism and organized crime works are there, along with a look or two at international finance being compromised by the first two.

Hey Jacksonian, thanks for that. Hope you check back. We already have a lengthy file on Transnational Progressivism here: http://politeia-dbase.blogspot.com/2007/12/transnational-progressivism-neo.html
