In Defense of Liberty: Steyn's foreword to Wilders' book

- Artwork by Bosch Fawstein
NRO: "The Spirit of Geert Wilders - A foreword to Wilders’ Marked for Death", by Mark Steyn

When I was asked to write a foreword to Geert Wilders’ new book, my first reaction, to be honest, was to pass. Mr. Wilders lives under 24/7 armed guard because significant numbers of motivated people wish to kill him, and it seemed to me, as someone who’s attracted more than enough homicidal attention over the years, that sharing space in these pages was likely to lead to an uptick in my own death threats. Who needs it? Why not just plead too crowded a schedule and suggest the author try elsewhere? I would imagine Geert Wilders gets quite a lot of this. And then I took a stroll in the woods, and felt vaguely ashamed at the ease with which I was willing to hand a small victory to his enemies. Wilders' nemesis turns to the UN -

The Amsterdam Court acquitted Geert Wilders last week of all charges. Since then we've had this piece of news -

Now that Wilders has been acquitted of all charges of hate spread, group insult and differentation, the plaintiffs are showing their hidden agenda. We learn from the Leftist 365/24/7 Wilders Bash Blog, Joop @2525 (pica) they will be appealing against the verdict in a formal complaint lodged at the Human Rights Committee of the United Nations. Geert Wilders Final Words at Trial -

On the final day of his trial at the Amsterdam Court, Geert Wilders appealed to the Court not to convict the freedom of speech. Verdict: June 23, the date we'll know if truth has still any relevance in this country and if it's free or in the hands of the pomo ruling class. Def meanwhile has done an interesting discovery -

pOmoLanD: "Is Geert Wilders Howard Roark?"

Two court room speeches. One against a specific kind of collectivism, another against collectivism in general. We know Martin Bosma (blog) is a staunch consumer of Ayn Rand's work. Perhaps he had a part in writing Geert Wilders' trial speech. Compare the two for yourself! Closing words of Geert Wilders at Amsterdam Court June 1, 2011 & Here (...) >>>

Truth is no excuse -

TeaParty Express News: "Journalist in France Convicted for Anti-Muslim Hate Speech"

We’ve heard a lot about Geert Wilders, the Dutch parliamentarian whose warnings about Muslim influence in his nation place him in the crosshairs of the powers-that-be. But while the tow-headed modern-day Templar has thus far dodged the hangman on Truth-speech charges, another intrepid defender of Western civilization has not been so lucky. And we haven’t heard much about him.

He is French journalist Eric Zemmour, and he was just convicted this week of “inciting racism.” Writes The New American’s R. Cort Kirkwood:

Zemmour’s “controversial” remarks included his observation that most drug dealers in France were black or Arab, and that employers “have the right” to deny employment to those two groups of people." (...) >>>

Israel turning on its traitors within -

Israel has had it with its traitors from within! It's of course the last country on earth that can afford them. Still, I believe the entire West is going to turn on the Leftist betrayal. Note how they have monopolized 'democracy' which is used pretty much as synonymous with 'leftist'. They simply appropriated the label -

Haaretz: "Leftist groups: 'Witch hunt' against us will destroy democracy in Israel"

Israeli left-wing organizations decried Wednesday a Knesset plenum decision to support a panel of inquiry to investigate certain groups suspected of "delegitimizing" the Israel Defense Forces. The plenum's approval means that the initiative will now be taken to the Knesset House Committee for debate. The initiative proposes investigating the sources of funding for these left-wing groups, and to determine whether money is being funneled from foreign states or organizations linked to terror activities. (...)

Peace Now Director-General Yariv Oppenheimer deemed the move "another step on the path toward wiping out democracy in Israel" and as a blatant attempt to persecute critics of Israeli policy. (...) MK Fania Kirshenbaum (Yisrael Beiteinu ), who submitted the proposal, alleged during the debate that the groups targeted for investigation were to blame for foreign actions aimed at delegitimizing Israel and its officials.

"These groups provide material to the Goldstone commission [which investigated the Gaza war] and are behind the indictments lodged against Israeli officers and officials around the world," Kirshenbaum said, referring to a series of arrest warrants issued over the last few years.

"They are trying to silence the very people who administrate the State of Israel's foreign relations," she declared. "These organizations are responsible for branding IDF soldiers as war criminals and encourage defamations." In her presentations, Kirshenbaum singled out one group which she claimed went into local Israeli schools to convince pupils that "joining the IDF is unethical" and to advise them how to dodge conscription. (...)

Sixteen human rights groups signed an open letter protesting the initiative, including ACRI, B'Tselem, Yesh Din, Machsom Watch, Adalah, Mossawa Center, Ir Amim and Hotline for Migrant Workers. "Investigate us all, we have nothing to hide. (...) >>>

Text of Geert Wilders' speech in Tel Aviv -

American Thinker: "Geert Wilders in Tel Aviv: 'Your country is the cradle of Western civilization'", by Andrew G. Bostom

It is now painfully apparent that Barack Hussein Obama's dull-witted adherence to Franz Fanon, "Wretched of the Earth"-inspired Third Worldism could be described as, For Obama, Islam IS Third Worldism.

Perhaps that is why our Manchild President cares so little for Israel -- certainly its Jewish inhabitants, and their government -- Israel being the only modern, fully functioning pluralistic democracy amidst a barren landscape of Arab Muslim nations and their fanatical theocratic, thugocratic, kleptocratic, and just plain lunocratic "governments." But it is to these irredentist Islamic societies that the Manchild pays homage.

In stark contrast to our President, Netherlands PPV Leader Geert Wilders offered the following uncompromised, historically accurate support of the State of Israel, today (...) >>>

Human Events: "Jihad to Subvert the Constitution", by Connie Hair

Security experts want a new dividing line between "moderate" and "radical" Islam delineated not by violence but by a willingness to hold the U.S. Constitution as the supreme law of the land in America.

The new "Team B II report" (Shariah: The Threat to America) just out from a respected group of national security professionals details the threat America faces from Islamic shariah law, an ideology using a stealth approach called “civilization jihad” to subvert the Constitution.

The report explains the scope and breadth of an infiltration of America's government and by the Muslim Brotherhood—a worldwide jihadist entity using violent and non-violent means to force the supremacy of Islamic shariah law. Shariah is the Muslim legal-political-military doctrine. (...) >>>

Wilders and a tale of two cities -

NRC: "Geert Wilders is major winner in Dutch polls"

Dutch anti-Islam leader Geert Wilders scored major gains in local elections on Wednesday, making him a serious challenger for power in the June national election, preliminary results showed. In the first test of public opinion since the collapse of prime minister Jan Peter Balkenende's coalition government last month, Wilders's populist Party for Freedom (PVV) led in the city of Almere and was second in The Hague, the only two municipalities where Wilders chose to compete.

The fall of the Dutch cabinet and the upcoming campaign for parliamentary elections overshadowed Wednesday's municipal elections. The actual results for the nearly 400 municipal councils hardly seemed to matter. All interest was focused on the implications for the upcoming parliamentary race.

If voters had elected a new parliament on Wednesday, the PVV would have won between 24 and 27 seats in the 150 seat parliament. In one poll, it would be the largest single party. (...) "The leftist elite still believes in multi-culturalism, coddling criminals, a European super-state and high taxes," Wilders told cheering supporters at a rally in Almere after polling ended on Wednesday. "But the rest of the Netherlands thinks differently. That silent majority now has a voice."

In Almere, the PVV won 21 percent of the vote to Labour's 18 percent, preliminary results showed. In The Hague, the PVV had 8 seats -- second to Labour with 10 seats. After counting 93 percent of the votes, experts put turnout in the local elections at 56 percent. (...) >>>

Meet the fascist anti fascists -

PJM: "Who Is Behind the Persecution of Geert Wilders?", by Carel Brendel

Freedom of speech in the West is threatened by the trial of Dutch politician Geert Wilders. But both within and beyond the Netherlands, few people have noticed the political origins of the most enthusiastic supporters of this political witch hunt. (...) NBK is one of the leading political forces behind www.wildersontrial.com. Danen and his “anti-racists” collected more then one hundred quotes from Wilders that are supposed to be racist, discriminatory, and hateful. They lodged several complaints against Wilders. The public prosecutor decided not to pursue the case, because the speeches and articles of Wilders stay within the limits of the freedom of speech.

NBK decided to appeal this decision, as did many individuals. A lot of them turned out to be members of the Universitaire Activisten — another Trotskyite front organization. An appeal was also lodged by the notorious Salafist preacher Fawaz Jneid, who hit the headlines before with vitriolic threats against the later murdered Theo van Gogh and against liberal MP Ayaan Hirsi Ali, who for her personal safety emigrated to the U.S. The Court of Appeal then decided that Wilders would indeed be tried, and Dutch freedom of speech and the legality of criticizing Islam are now in danger because the Court caved to an unholy alliance of extreme Muslims and leftists. German polemics heating up: More particularly the war of the Unholy Alliance of Muslims and postmodernists versus modernists - highly recommended for those still in the dark. The postmodern contribution flies in the face of logic and history. It is  characterized by false equation (colonization = Western Jihad) and sheer dishonesty (standing up for Western values = fundamentalism, criticism = hatred, feminism for Muslim women = racism, etc., etc.). Once again a treasure trove of pomo madness:

Signandsight: "Islam criticism: the German feuilleton debate"

Since the Swiss minaret ban and the attack on Danish cartoonist Kurt Westergaard, newspaper debate on criticism of Islam (more here) has become increasingly aggressive. Over the past fortnight the feuilletons have published a mass of articles attacking outspoken critics of contemporary Islam – in particular Henryk M. Broder (here his article after the attack on Kurt Westergaard, here an excerpt of his book "Hurra, Wir Kapitulieren"), Necla Kelek (here two of her articles), Seyran Ates (articles here, here and here) here and Ayaan Hirsi Ali.

Under the headline "Our holy warriors", Claudius Seidl, head of the Sunday feuilleton of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, counters Germany's Islam critics by arguing that western secularisation also took "almost a thousand years." "Not every argument is as easy to refute as Necla Kelek's conjecture that jihad lasted a thousand years, and it was not until 1683, before Vienna, that it was finally stopped, when the imperial army, the Polish, the Badenese and the Bavarian troops forced back the Ottoman army. But if the imperial wars of the Ottomans were holy, when did the western jihad come to an end? With the complete extermination of the Native Americans? (...) >>>

ICLA: "Geert Wilders’ trial is coming soon (January 20, 2010). Last step to support him with a SITA action"

(...)

An international SITA action in support of Geert Wilders was established in late January 2009. Politeia: "Team Wilders Versus Pomo Law"

The paper version of Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf reported this morning that Wilders' star lawyer Abraham Moszkowicz has lodged a complaint with the Amsterdam Court of Appeal against their indictment of Wilders for "insulting a group". (...) >>>

Dec. 4, 2009

Come to think of it: this charge may not even be constitutional. I don't know about your country, but it's the first time I hear "groups" are a legal entity. Article #1 of the Constitution reads: "All on the territory of the Netherlands will be treated equally in equal cases. Discrimination on the grounds of religion, philosophy or political affiliation, race, gender, or any other ground, is prohibited".

This article is said to constitute the principle of equality. The indictment against Wilders on the other hand rests on the postmodern collectivism of "groups", i.e. the ground for direct action i.e. positive discrimination, i.e. unequal groups being compensated in proportion to their inequality. This flies in the face of Art. 1.

Moszkowicz' complaint is rooted in an prior arrest in which someone claiming "Islam is evil" was acquited because Islam is not a person. Keeping an eye on De Telegraaf website for details.

An upcoming trip in January of a Parliamentary delegation to Turkey gets the fur flying. The MP party is headed by a rare Socialist, one that has a spine and unexpected stands by Wilders and free speech: if Turkey won't admit him, the tour will be called off. Note the misleading headline.

Elsevier has a point: if the Turkish Government will ban Wilders, this is proof a secular Turkey under Erdogan is a myth and is therefore unfit to join the EU.

Prague Daily Monitor: "Islam critic Wilders heading to Czech Republic"

Dutch critic of Islamism Geert Wilders, leader of the Party for Freedom (PVV), will deliver a speech at the Czech Senate to which he was invited by senator Jiri Oberfalzer (the Civic Democratic Party, ODS), Oberfalzer told CTK Wednesday. Wilders' speech will be followed by the projection of his anti-Islamist film Fitna and the unveiling of the portal euRABIA.cz, said Oberfalzer, a critic of the Lisbon treaty. Oberfalzer said he had invited Wilders because he had been denied a speech in the British House of Lords in February. The British Home Office denied entry to Britain to Wilders as national security could be jeopardised. "The step was challenged in court that has decided against it," Oberfalzer said. A Government coalition with the Freedom Party will lead to instability. It is not in our interest to discriminate on grounds of skin color or religion, VNO-NCW director says. Topping farce with ridicule he states: an independent judiciary, transparent taxation and stable politics are the pillars of a stable country. Wilders may be a danger to those institutions. The corporate interlocator of the labor unions is also against Government participation of what's deemed Wilders' political antithesis, the Maoist Socialist party.

You know who's the enemy when they're attacking the good with irrational charges (do you remember Befehl ist Befehl?)

Review Journal: "READY TO REVOLT: Oath Keepers pledges to prevent dictatorship in United States"

Depending on your perspective, the Oath Keepers are either strident defenders of liberty or dangerous peddlers of paranoia. In the age of town halls, talk radio and tea parties, middle ground of opinion is hard to find. Launched in March by Las Vegan Stewart Rhodes, Oath Keepers bills itself as a nonpartisan group of current and retired law enforcement and military personnel who vow to fulfill their oaths to the Constitution. (...)

"The whole point of Oath Keepers is to stop a dictatorship from ever happening here," Rhodes, a former Army paratrooper and Yale-trained lawyer, said in an interview with the Review-Journal. "My focus is on the guys with the guns, because they can't do it without them. "We say if the American people decide it's time for a revolution, we'll fight with you."

That type of rhetoric has caught the attention of groups that track extremist activity in the United States. In a July report titled "Return of the Militias," the Alabama-based Southern Poverty Law Center singled out Oath Keepers as "a particularly worrisome example of the Patriot revival." (...) Another right verdict for the wrong reasons ... note that they keep designating the defenders of democratic values as "far right":

BBC: "Dutch MP overturns UK entry ban"

Far-right Dutch MP Geert Wilders has won an appeal against a Home Office decision barring his entry to the UK. The Asylum and Immigration Tribunal ruling overturns a government decision that led to Mr Wilder being turned back at Heathrow in February. The Freedom Party leader, who has been accused of Islamophobia, planned a UK visit next week, his solicitor said.

The Home Office said it was disappointed, and would decide in "due course" whether to fight the ruling. A spokesman said: "We are disappointed by the court's decision. The government opposes extremism in all its forms. "The decision to refuse Wilders admission was taken on the basis that his presence could have inflamed tensions between our communities and have led to inter-faith violence. We still maintain this view."

Breitbart TV: "Michael Savage Blasts Brits for Canceling Cambridge Debate"

Oct. 8, 2009

I hope they make them pay out of pocket (well, one can dream, can't one?) ...

WND: "Realpolitik: Savage on ban list to 'balance' Muslim extremists"

Official correspondence, released under the United Kingdom's Freedom of Information law, reveals that U.S. radio talk-show host Michael Savage's name was placed on a list of people banned from Britain in order to provide "balance" to a "least wanted" list dominated by Muslim extremists, and the decision was made "at the highest level of government," the London Daily Mail reported today.

"We will want to ensure that the names disclosed reflect the broad range of cases and are not all Islamic extremists," reads a draft recommendation, marked "Restricted," that was obtained as part of Savage's libel lawsuit against the government and former Home Secretary Jacqui Smith. (...) Another e-mail, released under FOI, points to complicity by other agencies and even Prime Minister Gordon Brown. (...)

The internal e-mail communications include a message from an unnamed civil servant whose cautions were ignored. "I think we could be accused of duplicity in naming him," he wrote without explaining the reason. But, noting a possible mitigating factor that could quell any controversy, he added, "The fact that he is homophobic does help."

Smith's successor, Johnson, called the move a terrible blunder [see below] and told the Daily Mail he would scrap the policy of maintaining such enemies lists. But Savage told WND two days later that according to his attorney, Johnson's announcement did not mean his name had been removed from the list. "It ain't over till it's over," Savage said on his broadcast that day. >>>

Developments in the Banned From Britain saga ... Jackboot's replacement is readmitting US talk show host Michael Savage to Britain - reverting in the case of Geert Wilders ...

WND: "Michael Savage: Pack your bags for England! - Britain's incoming home secretary says ban on radio talker's travel to be lifted"

Radio talker Michael Savage told WND he was "stunned" by the quick decision by incoming United Kingdom Home Secretary Alan Johnson to scrap his predecessor's list of people banned from Britain – a list that included Savage along with Islamic hate preachers and terrorists.

Savage had sued outgoing Home Secretary Jacqui Smith for libel for listing him, along with 15 others, as "least wanted" visitors in the country. Meanwhile, Smith's successor, Alan Johnson, called the move a terrible blunder and told the London Daily Mail he would scrap the policy of maintaining such enemies lists. (...)

Last week, Jacqui Smith admitted she was not up to being home secretary, saying she should have been given some training for the job before being named. "When I became home secretary I'd never run a major organization," she told Total Politics magazine. Writers keep noticing the parallels with Germany in the interbellum: the Weimar Republic. Reminding the readers of Dr Sam Holliday's brilliant essay, "Red Flags". This article dates back to December last year:

Mar 30, 2009

PJM: "Exiling Islamic Terrorists, Leaving Islam Behind: Two Solutions and Counting", by Phillis Chesler

It might be the midnight hour but all is not yet lost, the British government has, amazingly, just done the right thing: They have denied a visa to radical terrorist, Ibrahim el-Moussawi, Hizbollah’s and Iran’s representative on earth, stationed in Lebanon. This is the man whom Douglas Murray, the Director of the Centre for Social Cohesion, had vowed to have deported were he to have been allowed to speak at the London School of Economics and Appeasement, a venue from which Murray himself had once been banned. According to today’s Daily Mail, Jacqui Smith, the Home Secretary, finally concluded that el-Moussawi’s presence would not be “conducive to the public good.” I’ll say. Credit goes to Douglas Murray for having threatened the lawsuit which has, clearly, been successful. (Hat tip to Barry Rubin for asking me to confirm this). You may read Murray’s press release HERE

Of course, if the British also keep denying visas to or, more shamefully, deporting, men like Dutch parliamentarian, Geert Wilders, little will be gained by such false equality. Wilders is sounding the alarm, el-Moussawi is the problem. (...) There is virtually no chance of reasoning with the brain-dead jihadists whose eyes are fixed on the promised lush paradise of Allah. It isn’t that they love death, just for the sake of death itself as Muslim leaders such as Hasan Nasrullah, the head of Lebanon’s Hizbollah proclaimed. They love death and happily embrace it because of what they have been brainwashed to believe is awaiting them as a reward.”
Ah, yes, the same Hizbollah that Moussawi represents. Imani ultimately implores the moderate or cultural Muslims to stop enabling the jihadists—by leaving Islam. (...) >>>
