The Unspeakable File: objectively evil

The Washington Times: "EXCLUSIVE: Taliban buying children for suicide bombers"

Pakistan's top Taliban leader, Baitullah Mehsud, is buying children as young as 7 to serve as suicide bombers in the growing spate of attacks against Pakistani, Afghan and U.S. targets, U.S. Defense Department and Pakistani officials say. Pakistani official, who spoke on the condition that he not be named because of the sensitive nature of the topic, said the going price for child bombers was $7,000 to $14,000 - huge sums in Pakistan, where per-capita income is about $2,600 a year. "[Mehsud] has turned suicide bombing into a production output, not unlike [the way] Toyota outputs cars," a U.S. Defense Department official told reporters recently. He spoke on the condition that he not be named because of ongoing intelligence efforts to catch Mehsud, a prime target for a U.S. and Pakistani anti-Taliban campaign. (...) >>>

WSJ - James Taranto's Column: "Acid Trip"

In 2004, an Iranian man named Majid developed feelings for a woman named Ameneh Bahrami. She did not reciprocate his interest, and he took the rejection poorly: He splashed acid on her face, causing her to go blind.

The Associated Press reports that an Iranian court has passed sentence in the case, ruling that Majid "should also be blinded with acid based on the Islamic law system of 'qisas,' or eye-for-an-eye retribution." But there's a catch:

Bahrami, who moved to Spain after the attack to get medical treatment, said Wednesday that under Iranian law, she is entitled to blind him in only one eye, unless she pays €20,000 ($25,110), because in Iran women are not considered equal to men.
"They have told us that my two eyes are equal to one of his because in my country each man is worth two women. They are not the same," she told Cadena SER.

Even if one is attracted to vivid methods of punishment, the idea that Majid is being treated with relative leniency because his victim is a woman is barbaric--an affront to both equality and chivalry. >>>

PJM: "Beheaded in Buffalo: The Honor Killing of Asiya Z. Hassan", by Phyllis Chesler

On February 13, 2009, in Orchard Park, a suburb of Buffalo, 44 year-old Muzzamil Hassan, a prominent Muslim businessman was arrested for having be-headed his wife, 37 year-old Aasiya Z. Hassan. Yes, he beheaded her. Aasiya’s crime? She dared to obtain an order of protection which forced her violent husband out of their home. We are now sadly familiar with some high profile Islamic beheadings of infidels in Muslim lands; Daniel Pearl, Nicholas Berg, immediately come to mind. Sadly, we are also familiar with the practice of beheading, dismembering, burying alive, and stoning Muslim (and sometimes Christian) women to death in Muslim lands. But this took place in a suburb of Buffalo, New York, in America, Land of the Free and Home of the Brave. What can this mean? Why behead a wife who wanted a divorce and who wanted to live free of daily violence? Why didn’t Hassan just agree to a divorce? Because this foul murder is very probably an honor killing (...) >>>

Facebook: "RIP Piotr Stanczak"

As Poles reeled in shock after the beheading of a Polish engineer by militants in Pakistan, their government vowed to hunt down his murderers and bring them to justice. "Now we can no longer save our compatriot, we are going to try to punish his killers," Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said today after confirming that a videotape of Piotr Stanczak's execution was authentic.

"A crime was committed, so there must be an investigation, a search for the guilty parties, and if possible, they must be brought before a court and served due punishment." Mr Sikorski said the Polish justice ministry was in the process of getting an international arrest issued for Stanczak's suspected killers. A group linked to Afghanistan's Taliban insurgency released a video of the execution of Stanczak yesterday.

Polish broadcasters showed only a still image from the video. Stanczak, 42, was working as a geologist in Pakistan for a Polish oil and natural gas exploration company when he was seized in the volatile northwest of the country on September 28. His abductors killed his driver and his bodyguard. The gruesome beheading of Stanczak - the first of a Pole by Islamic militants - caused widespread shock and revulsion in Poland. "Never in Poland have we had such a situation," said Jacek Cichocki, security adviser to Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

"We see films about citizens from other countries - Americans, British - but not Poles." Mr Cichocki said the kidnappers had originally demanded the release of 60 Islamist fighters held in Pakistan but eventually watered down their demands to just four.

Other Polish officials said the killer of US journalist Daniel Pearl, slain after he was kidnapped in 2002 in Pakistan, was among those whose release had been sought. Stanczak's captors also wanted Poland to pull out the 1600 troops it has deployed in Afghanistan as part of the UN-mandated and NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF). His killing was front page news in Poland's national newspapers today, with several printing a static image from his execution video showing him flanked by two masked and armed men. Behind the headlines, commentaries questioned if Mr Tusk's liberal government had done enough to try and free Stanczak. "The Polish government, did it do everything?" asked the Gazeta Wyborcza newspaper. >>>

Daily News: "Journalist Sean Langan tells of life in terror camp, escape from Taliban"

For a harrowing three months as a Taliban prisoner in a Pakistani terror camp, journalist Sean Langan lived face to face with sociopaths threatening to behead him as they plotted against the West. Langan, 44, miraculously walked out of the lawless tribal belt near Afghanistan in June - an area thick with armed Arab fighters - having absorbed an encyclopedic knowledge of jihadi tactics, resources and intent. (...) "If another 9/11 happens, it'll be by the same perpetrators of the greatest attack in history," he said. "It's a race against time." The threat posed by the extremists there is not surprising. What shocked him, however, was the total indifference to human life shown by his captors. Their own children were as expendable as bullets in an AK-47. (...) >>>

BBC: "Saudi Maid Verdict 'Outrageous'

Human Rights Watch has called on Saudi judges to overturn a decision to drop charges against a Saudi couple accused of severely abusing an Indonesian maid. A judge in Riyadh awarded $670 damages to the maid, Nour Miyati, but dropped all charges against her employers. The female employer, who admitted the abuse and was originally sentenced to 35 lashes, had her sentence overturned. Human Rights Watch said the ruling on Monday was "outrageous", and sent "a dangerous message" to Saudi employers. Ms Miyati, 25, contracted gangrene after allegedly being tied up for a month and left without food in 2005. She had to have several fingers and toes amputated. (...) >>>

Just when suicide attacks stopped shocking the world, came the news that Baghdad bombings were committed by two Down Syndrome women wired to explode.
