The Propaganda Hirabah: the return of the toad

If the strategy is to split the protective shield of Israel the toad can save himself the effort. Obama is already taking care of that. Seems the toad has been under his cobble too long, for he's missed that policy twist.

CNN: "'Bin Laden' tape: Obama can't stop war"

An audio message purportedly from al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden has accused President Barack Obama of being unable to fulfil his election pledge to pull U.S. troops out of Iraq. The tape emerged on radical Islamist Web sites, just two days after the United States marked the eighth anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terror attacks.

"To the American people, this is my message to you: a reminder of the reasons behind 9/11 and the wars and the repercussions that followed and the way to resolve it," the message said. "From the beginning, we have stated many times ... that the cause of our disagreement with you is your support of your allies, the Israelis, who are occupying our land in Palestine. Your stance along with some other grievances are what led us to carry out the events of 9/11." (...)

Obama was "a vulnerable man who will not be able to stop the war, as he promised, but instead he will drag it to the maximum possible extent," the message said. Though U.S. troops no longer patrol Iraq (...) tens of thousands remain in the country (...)  The message claims that the Obama administration is under the influence of the Republican White House it replaced, pointing out that the president kept Robert Gates as defense secretary (...) "Prolong the wars as much as you like. By God, we will never compromise on it (Palestine), ever," the message continued. (...) >>>

... And in a funny twist it seems the toad's propaganda infrastructure got somewhat impaired over the last couple of years - he's now turned to 4th tier book recommendations ...

Atlas Shrugs: "ISLAM: THE WAR OF PROPAGANDA MAKES HUGE GAINS"

Islam is unique in that it is the only religion with a propaganda arm. No other religion advocates for propaganda, deception and disinformation. It is a powerful weapon in their war on the enemy (non-Muslims).

The media is indispensable in this aspect of Islam's war on the West (education is too, of course). Sophisticated and well packaged, Islamic objectives are served well. The assault is global and national. And pretenses are being dropped. Al Jazeera (the English version) is now being live streamed to our intelligence and State departments. It is the worst kind of bias, but every employee can livestream it.

In the global landscape, the Alliance of Civilizations (arm of the OIC, the Organization of the Islamic Conference), is "connecting experts with journalists" through the UN. Get it?

UN-Sponsored Service Connects Journalists with Experts Around the World

Washington Post: "Bin Laden Threatens Europe Over Muhammad Cartoons", by Craig Whitlock

In a new audiotape released Wednesday, Osama bin Laden warned Europeans that they will face a "severe reckoning" for repeatedly publishing cartoons of the prophet Muhammad in newspapers and magazines. The five-minute speech was the second time in four months that bin Laden has delivered threats to European countries. "It paled when you went overboard in your unbelief . . . and went to the extent of publishing those insulting drawings," he said. "If there is no check on your freedom of words, then let your hearts be open to the freedom of our actions." (...) >>>
Informed sources tell us that Bin Laden's states that "What we are going to do you are not going to hear it but see it". Some assume that means a form of a chemical-biological attack.

CNN is reporting more of the statement, illustrative of the man playing his postmodern audience like a violin with rhetorical parlour tricks so popular in those circles: false equivalence and moral inversion:

"The speaker dismissed claims of free speech in his statement, citing European countries' laws against denying the existence of the Holocaust" and "He said Muslims have not responded by mocking Jesus, whom they consider a prophet as well."

Yep, the AARP, the pharmaceuticals and many others are "on board"! The question is, who are the coalition, PhRMA and HEN? These are - it seems - made up of the large drug manufacturers and include the AARP. How come the Dems are accusing the Reps of 'stoking opposition' on behalf of 'special interests'?  Well, word has it that insurance companies are not part of the deal. This is fun, isn't it?

Bloomberg: "Obama Campaign Ad Firms Signed On to Push Health-Care Overhaul", by Timothy J. Burger

Two firms that received $343.3 million to handle advertising for Barack Obama’s White House run last year have profited from his top priority as president by taking on his push for health-care overhaul.

One is AKPD Message and Media, the Chicago-based firm headed by David Axelrod until he left last Dec. 31 to serve as a senior adviser to the president. Axelrod was Obama’s top campaign strategist and is now helping sell the health-care plan. The other firm is Washington-based GMMB Campaign Group, where partner Jim Margolis was also an Obama strategist.

This year, AKPD and GMMB received $12 million in advertising business from Healthy Economy Now, a coalition that includes the Washington-based Pharmaceutical Research & Manufacturers of America, known as PhRMA, that is seeking to build support for a health-care overhaul, said the coalition’s spokesman, Jeremy Van Ess.

Hiring Obama’s campaign advisers makes sense, said Julius Hobson, a senior policy adviser in the Washington office of the St. Louis-based law firm, Bryan Cave LLP.

“If you’re in support of the president, then you use the people he used,” said Hobson, 61, who teaches a graduate course in lobbying at George Washington University in Washington.

HEN’s other members, according to its Web site, are the AARP, the biggest advocacy organization for retirees; the Advanced Medical Technology Association; the Business Roundtable; Families USA; the Service Employees International Union, all based in Washington, and the American Medical Association based in Chicago. PhRMA represents 28 drugmakers, including New York-based Pfizer Inc. and London-based GlaxoSmithKline Plc.

The Belgian newspaper De Tijd is confirming that a large group of Muslim fundamentalists, arrested last December in Brussels, is indeed the Belgium wing of terror network Al Qaeda. This was testified by an American crown witness who trained with them in Afghanistan. New York Muslim convert Bryant Neal Vinas, alias "Bashir el Ameriki" (26) confirmed the Belgians followed intensive combat courses and had contacts with the top brass. He also testified against the infamous Muslim activist Malika el Aroud who is tied to the assassination of Afghan leader Ahmad Shah Massoud, just days before 9/11 (see the preceding CNN special dated May 15, 2009).

UPI: "N.Y. man says he would die for al-Qaida"

A New York man who pleaded guilty to charges of aiding al-Qaida said he was ready to take on a suicide mission but was told he needed more religious training. Bryant Neal Vinas, who pleaded guilty to the charges in January, said he was prepared to be a suicide bomber during interviews with Belgian prosecutors building a terrorism case against a cell to which Vinas had ties, CNN reported Friday based on a prosecution summary of the interviews it obtained.

The French-language document details how Vinas traveled from New York to Pakistan and what he did while he was there, from becoming a member of al-Qaida to military training he received. He said he was asked to become a suicide bomber, but told he needed more religious training, which he said he received in Pakistan. (...) >>>

CNN: "Italy arrests linked to Brussels 'al Qaeda' recruiting network"

Editor's Note: Paul Cruickshank is a fellow at the NYU Center on Law & Security and the producer of "One Woman's War," a CNN "World's Untold Stories" documentary on the alleged Belgian terrorist cell reported by CNN Senior International Correspondent Nic Robertson. The program was recently nominated "best documentary" in the 2009 Monte Carlo Global Television Awards.

European intelligence agencies are on alert for new al Qaeda terrorist plots following the arrest of two men at an Italian port and investigations into the activities of an alleged al Qaeda network based in Brussels. The two are closely tied to a Brussels-based al Qaeda recruiting network, Belgian counter-terrorism officials have told CNN. They are Bassam Ayachi, 62, and Raphael Gendron, 33 -- and they were detained in the port of Bari on November 11 last year after allegedly trying to smuggle three Palestinians and two Syrians into Italy in the false bottom of a camper van they were driving. Now they face much more serious allegations following a counter-terrorism investigation by Italian, French and Belgian police. Italian authorities have officially charged them with being leaders of a logistical support team for al Qaeda. A bug planted by Italian police in the suspects' detention facility picked up snatches of conversation about an alleged scheme to attack Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris. A partial transcript of one of their alleged conversations has now been released. (...)

Ayachi and Gendron were detained after Italian authorities allegedly found Jihadist propaganda in their possession when they arrived on a ferry from Greece. Belgian police say they alerted Italian authorities that the pair were known extremists. Ayachi is a naturalized French cleric of Syrian descent, and in the early 1990s had founded the Centre Islamique Belge (CIB), an organization Belgian authorities say espoused hard-line Salafist and pro al Qaeda views. Gendron, described by Italian police as a computer expert, was the main administrator of the CIB's Web site in Belgium. In 2006 Gendron and Ayachi's son Abdel Rahman Ayachi were convicted in Belgium for posting threatening anti-Semitic messages on the site. Their prison sentences were later reduced to a fine by an Appeals court.

A Belgian counter-terrorism source tells CNN that the CIB has clandestinely continued its operations in Belgium. When CNN reporters visited its headquarters on the Rue Memling in Brussels in February, Islamists appeared to still occupy the premises. In previous interviews with Belgian journalists, Avachi said his organization concentrated on pastoral care for Muslims in Brussels and did not promote pro-al Qaeda views.

In April 1999 Ayachi officiated at the wedding of two protégés at CIB, Abdessattar Dahmane and Malika el Aroud. The couple would later become "icons" of the al Qaeda movement, according to Belgian counter-terrorism officials. Two days before 9/11, Dahmane assassinated Ahmed Shah Massoud, the head of the anti-Taliban Northern Alliance, in a suicide bombing operation in Afghanistan. After his death Malika el Aroud, a Belgian citizen of Moroccan descent who had accompanied him to Afghanistan, returned to Europe and founded Minbar.SOS -- a Web site promoting Bin Laden's Jihad. She also remarried. In a CNN interview in 2006 el Aroud demonstrated how she and her new husband Moez Garsallaoui ran the site, which contained postings of attacks on coalition troops in Iraq and translations of the speeches of al Qaeda leaders. France's Burning Barricades: "celebrating" natl holiday

The Daily Beast: "Rioters Burn 317 Cars in France"

This Bastille Day, the French celebrated their country in what is becoming a grim, albeit historically appropriate tradition: riots. Der Spiegel reports that at least 317 cars were torched yesterday in French cities despite the deployment of 10,000 police officers. Bastille-Day-eve violence has become traditional in France as disaffected young men seize the occasion to express anger at unemployment rates and failed policies toward ethnic minorities. The cars torched represented a seven percent increase over last year and police arrested almost double the number of protesters—240—despite a new law that has toughened punishments against rioters. Last night marked the third day of rioting in Lyon, and the second day of unrest in Paris, as people demonstrated against two unrelated incidents of alleged police brutality that took place on July 8. >>>

In my previous post I mentioned that 297 cars had burned during the night of July 13-14. Now it seems that another 295 were torched the following night, making a total of 592 cars destroyed – 150 in Ile-de-France (the Parisian region) and 145 in the provinces. In addition, 98 persons were arrested and 58 were placed in custody in all of France. The figures just for Ile-de-France are 48 arrests and 29 in custody. However the worst crime so far took place in Asnières, in the department of Hauts-de-Seine (Parisian suburbs). TF1 reports: He may lose an eye. Gallia Watch: "Crime Watch"

Crimes and urban violence go on all the time in France, as in the US. Sometimes there's a respite, but it's usually temporary. This article from Le Parisien, posted at Gaelle Mann describes a confrontation between "young persons" and gendarmes, that took place Saturday night and Sunday morning, in Vitry-le-François (Marne):

"(...) About sixty cars were torched, as well as trash cans, during the outburst in which 50 youth confronted gendarmes and firemen, according to Sylvaine Astic, an official in the office of the prefect. Two firemen, two gendarmes and five residents "not necessarily implicated in the violence," were slightly injured. The fighting broke out around 10:00 p.m. after the death of a young man about 20 years of age, killed by a gunshot in a neighborhood near the boundary of Vitry-le-François, a city of 17,000 inhabitants, 30 kilometers from Châlons-en-Champagne. Madame Astic spoke of "rather violent acts." (...) >>>

Times Online: "France stunned by rioters’ savagery"

(...) Altogether 130 policemen were injured, dozens by shotgun pellets and shells packed with nails that were fired from a homemade bazooka. It prompted talk of urban “guerrilla warfare” being waged on French streets against the forces of law and order.

By the end of the week an extraordinarily heavy police presence in Villiers-le-Bel, where most of the rioting took place, appeared to have halted the violence: on top of public transport strikes and student protests against his reform plans, Nicolas Sarkozy, the French president, could not afford a repeat of 2005, when a similar incident involving the deaths of two youths provoked the worst French urban unrest in four decades.

Things were so tense in the suburbs, however, that the riots could easily erupt again with the prospect of deaths on either side setting off a much greater explosion and, conceivably, the deployment of the army to keep peace.
“Given the weapons being used, it was lucky that nobody was killed,” said a policeman. Nearby were the charred remains of the local constabulary. The nursery school was burnt down. So was the library.
Rioting two years ago was widely regarded ... >>>

A quote from the French writer Bernard Antony at his blog, 27 November 2007 [here is an English translation]
The racist scum of this civil war shows no emotion over the murder of Anne-Lorraine [Schmitt].
Anne-Lorraine, a young Frenchwoman, a young Christian woman, was murdered while heroically resisting the monster who was attempting to rape her. This murder did not trigger a single riot. And yet, at the very least, the early release of criminals ought to result in demonstrations in front of the Ministry of Justice.

On the other hand, once again, an accident was the pretext for an anti-police hysteria that saw veritable professionals commit acts of civil war with weapons suitable to the task. […] But now we are all waiting to see what the government of Mr. Sarkozy is going to do to prevent any offense being done to the triumphant scum. […] >>>

Last Sunday evening, Anne-Lorraine Schmitt, a 23-year old journalism student, the eldest of five children from a devout Catholic family, was stabbed to death on the RER suburban metro train. (...)

Barely three hours before Anne-Lorraine was stabbed, ten kilometres away, in Villiers-le-Bel, two joyriding immigrant youths of 15 and 16 years old, drove their stolen motorcycle at maximum speed into a passing police vehicle. They died on the spot. (...)

Yesterday night, in a second consecutive night of violence, youths attacked police officers and firemen in Villiers-le-Bel and in nearby Sarcelles and Garges-les-Gonesses. In last night’s riots 77 officers got wounded, five of them seriously, including one officer whose shoulder was pierced by a bullet from a shotgun. In addition, 63 cars, a public library, two schools, a bank and a supermarket were torched.

The French President, Nicolas Sarkozy, on a state visit in China, has called for calm. Mr. Sarkozy had better stayed at home, however, because October-November is the season of the Annual Intifada Festival in Paris. The Controversial Dossier: Charles, Divine Right and the warm-mongers

Another one is bearing out the thesis ... Charles the Luddite is a true Rousseauian if there ever was one ...

National Review: "Gaia’s Right - Environmentalism seeks to return us to the age of kings", by Mark Steyn

(...) As the British newspaper the Independent reported: "Capitalism and consumerism have brought the world to the brink of economic and environmental collapse, the Prince of Wales has warned. . . . And in a searing indictment on capitalist society, Charles said we can no longer afford consumerism and that the ‘age of convenience’ was over." He then got in his limo and was driven to his other palace.

It takes a prince, heir to the thrones of Britain and Canada and Australia, Jamaica, Papua New Guinea, and a bunch of other places, to tell it like it is: You pampered consumerists are ruining the joint. In the old days, we didn’t have these kinds of problems. But then Mr. and Mrs. Peasant start remodeling the hovel, adding a rec room and indoor plumbing, replacing the emaciated old nag with a Honda Civic and driving to the mall in it, and next thing you know, instead of just having an extra yard of mead every Boxing Day at the local tavern and adding a couple more pustules to the escutcheon with the local trollop, they begin taking vacations in Florida. When it was just medieval dukes swanking about like that, the planet worked fine: That was “sustainable” consumerism. But now the masses want in. And, once you do that, there goes the global neighborhood.

By contrast, as an example of an exemplary environmentalist, the prince hailed his forebear, King Henry VIII. True, he had a lot of wives, but he did dramatically reduce Anne Boleyn’s carbon footprint.

I always enjoy it when the masks slip and the warm-mongers explicitly demand we adopt a massive Poverty Expansion Program to save the planet. (...) >>>

Townhall: "Revealed: Conservatives Have Escape Plan for When They Destroy the Earth," by David Strom

Well, the secret is out. Conservatives' willingness to destroy Mother Earth in pursuit of financial gain now makes sense. The missing fact that helps explain the seemingly inexplicable willingness of Conservatives to destroy the planet was revealed last week by former astronaut Dr. Edgar Mitchell. Dr. Mitchell has broken a long-standing wall of silence and revealed that our government-and governments around the world-have been in secret contact with alien beings from another planet. (...) The details don't matter as much as this one fact: we now know why conservatives have felt free to destroy the Earth. They have negotiated passage to a new, better, and cleaner world elsewhere in the Universe! (...) "The Earth has a fever," we are told, and anybody who questions that fact is a "denier" in the mold of holocaust deniers. The Unspeakable File: objectively evil

The Washington Times: "EXCLUSIVE: Taliban buying children for suicide bombers"

Pakistan's top Taliban leader, Baitullah Mehsud, is buying children as young as 7 to serve as suicide bombers in the growing spate of attacks against Pakistani, Afghan and U.S. targets, U.S. Defense Department and Pakistani officials say. Pakistani official, who spoke on the condition that he not be named because of the sensitive nature of the topic, said the going price for child bombers was $7,000 to $14,000 - huge sums in Pakistan, where per-capita income is about $2,600 a year. "[Mehsud] has turned suicide bombing into a production output, not unlike [the way] Toyota outputs cars," a U.S. Defense Department official told reporters recently. He spoke on the condition that he not be named because of ongoing intelligence efforts to catch Mehsud, a prime target for a U.S. and Pakistani anti-Taliban campaign. (...) >>>

WSJ - James Taranto's Column: "Acid Trip"

In 2004, an Iranian man named Majid developed feelings for a woman named Ameneh Bahrami. She did not reciprocate his interest, and he took the rejection poorly: He splashed acid on her face, causing her to go blind.

The Associated Press reports that an Iranian court has passed sentence in the case, ruling that Majid "should also be blinded with acid based on the Islamic law system of 'qisas,' or eye-for-an-eye retribution." But there's a catch:

Bahrami, who moved to Spain after the attack to get medical treatment, said Wednesday that under Iranian law, she is entitled to blind him in only one eye, unless she pays €20,000 ($25,110), because in Iran women are not considered equal to men.
"They have told us that my two eyes are equal to one of his because in my country each man is worth two women. They are not the same," she told Cadena SER.

Even if one is attracted to vivid methods of punishment, the idea that Majid is being treated with relative leniency because his victim is a woman is barbaric--an affront to both equality and chivalry. >>>

PJM: "Beheaded in Buffalo: The Honor Killing of Asiya Z. Hassan", by Phyllis Chesler

On February 13, 2009, in Orchard Park, a suburb of Buffalo, 44 year-old Muzzamil Hassan, a prominent Muslim businessman was arrested for having be-headed his wife, 37 year-old Aasiya Z. Hassan. Yes, he beheaded her. Aasiya’s crime? She dared to obtain an order of protection which forced her violent husband out of their home. We are now sadly familiar with some high profile Islamic beheadings of infidels in Muslim lands; Daniel Pearl, Nicholas Berg, immediately come to mind. Sadly, we are also familiar with the practice of beheading, dismembering, burying alive, and stoning Muslim (and sometimes Christian) women to death in Muslim lands. But this took place in a suburb of Buffalo, New York, in America, Land of the Free and Home of the Brave. What can this mean? Why behead a wife who wanted a divorce and who wanted to live free of daily violence? Why didn’t Hassan just agree to a divorce? Because this foul murder is very probably an honor killing (...) >>>

Facebook: "RIP Piotr Stanczak"

As Poles reeled in shock after the beheading of a Polish engineer by militants in Pakistan, their government vowed to hunt down his murderers and bring them to justice. "Now we can no longer save our compatriot, we are going to try to punish his killers," Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said today after confirming that a videotape of Piotr Stanczak's execution was authentic.

"A crime was committed, so there must be an investigation, a search for the guilty parties, and if possible, they must be brought before a court and served due punishment." Mr Sikorski said the Polish justice ministry was in the process of getting an international arrest issued for Stanczak's suspected killers. A group linked to Afghanistan's Taliban insurgency released a video of the execution of Stanczak yesterday.

Polish broadcasters showed only a still image from the video. Stanczak, 42, was working as a geologist in Pakistan for a Polish oil and natural gas exploration company when he was seized in the volatile northwest of the country on September 28. His abductors killed his driver and his bodyguard. The gruesome beheading of Stanczak - the first of a Pole by Islamic militants - caused widespread shock and revulsion in Poland. "Never in Poland have we had such a situation," said Jacek Cichocki, security adviser to Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

"We see films about citizens from other countries - Americans, British - but not Poles." Mr Cichocki said the kidnappers had originally demanded the release of 60 Islamist fighters held in Pakistan but eventually watered down their demands to just four.

Other Polish officials said the killer of US journalist Daniel Pearl, slain after he was kidnapped in 2002 in Pakistan, was among those whose release had been sought. Stanczak's captors also wanted Poland to pull out the 1600 troops it has deployed in Afghanistan as part of the UN-mandated and NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF). His killing was front page news in Poland's national newspapers today, with several printing a static image from his execution video showing him flanked by two masked and armed men. Behind the headlines, commentaries questioned if Mr Tusk's liberal government had done enough to try and free Stanczak. "The Polish government, did it do everything?" asked the Gazeta Wyborcza newspaper. >>>

Daily News: "Journalist Sean Langan tells of life in terror camp, escape from Taliban"

For a harrowing three months as a Taliban prisoner in a Pakistani terror camp, journalist Sean Langan lived face to face with sociopaths threatening to behead him as they plotted against the West. Langan, 44, miraculously walked out of the lawless tribal belt near Afghanistan in June - an area thick with armed Arab fighters - having absorbed an encyclopedic knowledge of jihadi tactics, resources and intent. (...) "If another 9/11 happens, it'll be by the same perpetrators of the greatest attack in history," he said. "It's a race against time." The threat posed by the extremists there is not surprising. What shocked him, however, was the total indifference to human life shown by his captors. Their own children were as expendable as bullets in an AK-47. (...) >>>

BBC: "Saudi Maid Verdict 'Outrageous'

Human Rights Watch has called on Saudi judges to overturn a decision to drop charges against a Saudi couple accused of severely abusing an Indonesian maid. British Home Sec. and former "Blair babe" Jacqui Smith explains UK's application for dhimmi status in Pakistan to German leftist magazine "Der Spiegel"!

Der Spiegel: "No Day This Year without a Terror Trial"

In an interview with SPIEGEL, British Home Secretary Jacqui Smith discusses her country's experience in taking in former inmates from the Guantanamo prison camp and how her country is seeking to reach out to young Muslims before they radicalize. (...) How would you evaluate the general situation?

Smith: Severe. We believe that an attack is highly likely and could happen at any time and without warning. On the other hand we see some success. In 2008, we had 50 people convicted in terror-related trials and this year there will not be a single day in the United Kingdom without a terrorist trial on the timetable.

SPIEGEL: British government members stopped using the terms "war on terror" or "Islamic terrorists."You tend to speak of "anti-Islamic activists." Why?

Smith: Part of the reason why people turn to extremism is the appeal that is made to them by those who are promoting an ideology that seeks to create hatred. It is an approach that uses a certain language and certain messages. For example, they claim that there is an incompatibility between the British or the Germans and European Muslims, that it is impossible to be a Muslim within a democratic system. Part of the way to respond to that is in the way of communication. We work hard to get the message out that this is plainly wrong and that secondly we are talking about criminal acts that have nothing to do with the principles of Islam.

SPIEGEL: Do you really think that this will stop the radicalization of young Muslims?

Smith: I would not call it an image campaign (...) >>>

Express India: "Don't attack us please, UK ads to say on Pak TV"

The British government will air ads on Pakistani television urging terrorists to not attack Britain. Prominent British Muslims will star in the British Foreign Office-funded £400,000 (approximately Rs 2.9 crore)-campaign that is set to break on Pakistani television next Monday, ‘The Guardian’ reported on Tuesday. The three-month public relations offensive, called ‘I Am the West’, will also include high-profile events in regions such as Peshawar and Mirpur, ‘The Guardian’ said. Seven in ten British Pakistanis are Mirpuris. (...)

The central theme of the campaign, ‘The Guardian’ said, "is to assert that there is no contradiction in being a Muslim and being British." It has four key aims, the daily reported: ‘to ensure Pakistanis realise the west is not anti-Islamic, that British society is not anti-Islam, to demonstrate the extent to which Muslims are integrated into British society and to stimulate and facilitate constructive debate on the compatibility of liberal and Muslim values’. >>>

Kurdistan: Iran airstrike on Iraq; Obama tested?

BREAKING NEWS ...

DProgram: "MSM: Iran Launches Airstrikes Into Iraq"

Iranian aircraft attacked three villages inside Iraq over the weekend. The airstrikes - Iran’s first on Iraqi soil since the U.S. invasion - could complicate the Obama administration’s efforts to normalize relations with Tehran.“The bombardments appeared to have targeted the Party of Free Life of Kurdistan (PJAK), an Iranian Kurdish separatist group which has launched attacks on Iran from rear-supply bases in the mountains of northern Iraq,” AFP reports. Iran has attacked the Kurdish group before, with artillery. But this is the first time the Iranians followed up, with assaults from the air.“

The incident comes a week after reports of a clash between Iranian police officers and suspected PJAK fighters in the country’s western province of Kermanshah,” Al-Jazeera reports. “At least 10 policemen and 10 fighters were killed in the gun battle.”Details on the airstrikes remain sketchy. Voice of America says the attacks werecarried out by helicopters, which remained in Iranian airspace. Al-Arabiyah television, on the other hand, says it was “Iranian planes [that] raided those villages.”

It is a serious development because the Iraqi airspace is under the control of the US Air Force and under US protection.  So the raids are either approved by the United States, as was the case when a US nod was previously given to the Turkish Army, or such operation was a surprise by the Iranians.  According to eyewitnesses (...) >>>

Apostating Islam: much like hazing

Act for America: "Why Do Even Decent, Well-Meaning Muslims Try To Whitewash Their Religion?"

IT'S CRAZY. Most Muslims pretend there is nothing about Islam that might inspire terrorism. I get letters from apparently sincere Muslims all the time who try to convince me that violent Jihadis have got it all wrong because Islam really is a religion of peace. (...) some of them even know about the principle of abrogation (I've been asking them lately), and still they want me to stop saying unflattering things about Islam. (...) Why aren't there more apostates? It doesn't make any sense. But I came across an experiment that shed a little light on the situation. I read about it in the excellent book, Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion, which I recommend to you since the most important thing we can do is influence other non-Muslims to stop giving concessions to Islam's relentless encroachment.

We need to master the principles of influence. (...) "persons who go through a great deal of trouble or pain to attain the something tend to value it more highly than persons who attain the same thing with a minimum of effort. (...) There is also the principle of commitment and consistency working against their potential for renouncing the faith or at least criticizing it. Once a person has done something, especially in public, that demonstrates a belief in something, he will find it difficult to reverse his position. And of course, if you add to that the actual danger of leaving Islam, the situation is very much like a person who really has no way out, and must make the best of his imprisonment. >>>

Last November the Norwegian Islamic Council asked the European fatwa council what attitude it should have to homosexuals. Middle East Forum: "Fear Stalks Muslim Apostates in the West," by David J. Rusin

(...) For other ex-Muslims, the intimidation is far more concrete. Khaled emigrated from Iraq to the Netherlands, hoping to freely practice his new religion; instead he receives death threats from Islamists. Sofia was beaten and told by her father that she deserves to die; she ultimately was thrown out of their London house. Hannah, the daughter of a British imam, has changed residences forty-plus times since converting to Christianity; she went underground in 1994 when her home was attacked by a horde of men that included her father, whom she describes as "shouting through the letter box, ‘I'm going to kill you.'" In April Dutch politician Ehsan Jami announced that he is closing down his Central Committee for Ex-Muslims after less than a year of operation because people are too scared to join. Aiding apostates begins with acknowledging what endangers them: the prescription of death under Shari'a law. Yet Islamist lobby groups like the Council on American-Islamic Relations labor to obscure the facts. (...) the perils suffered by Muslim apostates offer a powerful reminder that upholding such freedoms demands vigilance. How our societies respond to this challenge will help set the parameters of freedom in the twenty-first century by determining whether fundamental rights truly are guaranteed for all. (...) >>>

Politeia: "Effective Communication Against the Third Jihad", by Dr Sam C. Holliday

The apparent renunciation of terrorism by the person who provided the rationale for the global Muslim revivalist movement presents an opportunity for the United States to improve its performance in strategic communication. In Foundations of Preparation for Jihad, Sayyid Imam al-Sharif prescribed a Third Jihad for the Islamization of the world.

Al-Sharif founded the Egyptian Islamic Jihad; his supporters assassinated President Anwar Sadat in 1981 and he was with Osama Bin Laden in Afghanistan fighting against the Soviet Union. He is a medical doctor and was an associate of Ayman al-Zawahiri, another Egyptian doctor, who is now Osama Bin Laden's deputy. Al-Sharif was captured after 9/11 and has been in an Egyptian jail since 2004.

There have been several reports that Al-Sharif will soon publish a book in which he states that the use of terror, and the killing of innocent nonbelievers, in the name of Jihad, violate the Qur’an. >>>
