President Barack Obama with White House Chief ...Image via Wikipedia
Alert! Heads up: HR1444 has a new co-sponsor; Conyers D-MI signed up. This is a big one...this is a MUST ACT issue, no sitting on the sidelines for this one.

HR1444 establishes funding to create the mandatory government service for all males and females that Obama alluded to in his campaign speech in Colorado and that Rahm Emmanuel described years ago. This bill has been sitting idle in committee since April; now, the addition of another co-sponsor is troubling.

Why should you care? How about Section 4.(b)(6):
"(6) Whether a workable, fair, and reasonable mandatory service requirement for all able young people could be developed, and how such a requirement could be implemented in a manner that would strengthen the social fabric of the Nation and overcome civic challenges by bringing together people from diverse economic, ethnic, and educational backgrounds."

Meet the model:

IBD Editorials: "Michelle's Boot Camps For Radicals"

Barack Obama was a founding member of the board of Public Allies in 1992, resigning before his wife became executive director of the Chicago chapter of Public Allies in 1993. Obama plans to use the nonprofit group, which he features on his campaign Web site, as the model for a national service corps. He calls his Orwellian program, "Universal Voluntary Public Service."

Big Brother had nothing on the Obamas. They plan to herd American youth into government-funded reeducation camps where they'll be brainwashed into thinking America is a racist, oppressive place in need of "social change."

The pitch Public Allies makes on its Web site doesn't seem all that radical. It promises to place young adults (18-30) in paid one-year "community leadership" positions with nonprofit or government agencies. They'll also be required to attend weekly training workshops and three retreats.

In exchange, they'll get a monthly stipend of up to $1,800, plus paid health and child care. They also get a post-service education award of $4,725 that can be used to pay off past student loans or fund future education.

But its real mission is to radicalize American youth and use them to bring about "social change" through threats, pressure, tension and confrontation — the tactics used by the father of community organizing, Saul "The Red" Alinsky.

"Our alumni are more than twice as likely as 18-34 year olds to . . . engage in protest activities," Public Allies boasts in a document found with its tax filings. It has already deployed an army of 2,200 community organizers like Obama to agitate for "justice" and "equality" (...) >>>

Traditional Values: "$6 Billion To Train People To Volunteer? - Obama wants a civilian security force as powerful as the Department of Defense", by Andrea Lafferty

When President Barack Hussein Obama campaigned for the White House, he promised he would establish a civilian security force that would be as fully-funded as the Department of Defense. (...) Obama wants a civilian security force as powerful and as well-funded as the Department of Defense? Would that include giving this security force weapons – like rifles, helicopters, and missile launchers? (...) The groundwork for this civilian army controlled by Obama was accomplished in the Senate on March 25. The Obama-compliant U.S. Senate passed the Serve America Act (S. 3487), which is being portrayed as a way of encouraging volunteerism in America. It is sponsored by extreme liberal Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-MA).

This bill creates a National Service Reserve Corps that allegedly is only for aiding in national disasters and other emergencies. It will use colleges and universities as bases of operation for training students to “serve” their communities. S. 3487 will use these volunteers to assist non-profits, faith-based groups and other civic organizations to improve “the capacity of such organizations.” In other words, to help liberal nonprofits to promote Obama’s social agenda. Obama supporters in Alabama are campaigning throughout Birmingham for passage of Obama’s $9.3 trillion dollar spending binge. The organizers are part of Organizing for America. A leader of this group is Chris DeHaven. He told his volunteers: “We’re looking for supporters. We’re not looking for a fight. That will come later, when we have an army.” (...) >>>

Free Republic: "The Movement"

(...) since 1993, he's been organizing the cadre of his personal, civilian national security force -- his "shadow army" -- at fifteen fully-staffed and populated indoctrination centers. Public Allies, modeled after Alinsky's "people’s organizations," is operating under the watchful eye of Michelle Obama and it has a ton of money -- more than $75 million per year -- and an impressive list of donors. Naturally, it also receives grants from federal, state and municipal sources. Its mission has been, and is, to produce "community organizers" -- baby Obamas -- and its process is replicable and repeatable -- continually producing more apparatchiks in "the community," where these people are perceived of as leaders. They answer to only one person -- Obama. During the campaign, Obama also ran, at the state level, a "national program for social change," called "Camp Obama" -- here is their sign-up page -- you too can be a "Deputy Field Organizer."
The Obama Campaign's website promised that "you'll get the kind of experience that Barack got as a community organizer on the South Side of Chicago," and "Camp Obama is your chance to step up and become a leader in 'this movement'." These community organizers have constituencies that can be mobilized, at the touch of a button, into political actions -- mobs in the streets -- to influence public opinion and the political process -- real visual stuff that Obama's water-carriers in the media will broadcast 24/7.

In addition to these shock troops, Obama has a reserve of 13 million-plus in his personal database that he is actively expanding. This pool of Internet-savvy people can be used to promote or attack any issue. Obama can direct tens of thousands of emotional emails, phone calls and letters on any target. Remember, in September, when Chicago radio station WGN-AM twice came under attack from the Obama Campaign for offering airtime to an author who was politically opposed to Obama. As the result of an "Obama Action Wire" alert to supporters, the Tribune-owned station was flooded with phone calls and e-mails about an hour before an Aug. 27 interview with Stanley Kurtz, a conservative writer who examined Obama’s ties to former 1960's radical William Ayers. The phone calls effectively shut the station down.

This Svengali recently released this video, in which he calls for MORE "volunteers" to help him "change America" -- and he makes it sound like a noble cause. In the video, at the end, he even places "The Movement" before "our country" -- the United States of America." Never before has such a massive, organized political action force -- independent from the federal government --existed. Obama sardonically calls it, "Organizing for America." (...) >>>

PJM: "Obama’s Corrosive Communitarian ‘Service’ for Students"
The president-elect has backpedaled on his longstanding campaign promise to have government mandate community service by students. Seemingly more innocuously, he now plans to “call on” and “encourage” them to serve by “setting a goal” for all middle school and high school students to perform 50 hours of service a year, and for all college students who perform 100 hours of service to receive a tax credit guaranteeing that the first $4,000 of their college education is entirely free.
Some, such as Michele Catalano writing at Pajamas Media, seem incredulous that anyone could “frown upon” such an “altruistic,” “sharing,” “caring,” “helping,” “selfless” program. She waxes indignant that some critics have associated it with socialism and Marxism, which hold that society should be dealt with as a collective and that only workers’ labor, not free exchanges of goods and services, should determine our communal life. The Foundry: "Rahm’s Plan for Mandatory Service"

There has been a small uproar around Obama’s call for a “civilian national security force” especially one “that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded” as the military. (...) now there is new evidence that the critics are right. He does favor mandatory service and it might be worse than we thought. (...) Rahm Emanuel wrote a book called The Plan in 2006. On page 60-65 of the book Rahm calls for universal conscription of 18-24 year olds for civilian service in order to prepare for a potential terrorist attack.
All Americans between the ages of eighteen and twenty-five will be asked to serve their country by going through three months of basic training, civil defense preparation and community service.
In a 2006 radio interview Rahm explains more about the program. He speaks about the dangers of a chemical attack and about the wonderful common experience that all Americans could have by being drafted for 3 months into a civilian national security force training program. He seems to be using the fear of attack to justify drafting all youth into a militaristic civilian security force – something more reminiscent of a dictatorship than a democracy. And all of his calls to unity and common experience only confirm his preference for nationalism or collectivism over individualism and freedom. That Obama has chosen this man as his chief of staff should give anyone pause. This man has a “Plan” for the country that involves training our youth like soldiers, and calls upon “a new patriotism that brings us together again in a common mission” for his plan which will “unite us in a higher national purpose.” >>>

... this civil defense force is wrong on a very basic level ... let's put it this way: this general draft idea is alien to American culture for a good reason ... it stands for the state as a symbol of the collective ... in other words, it's Nationalistic ... Ace of Spades: "How Exactly Do We Fight Compulsory the "Civil Defense" Army?"

Obama really does seem to have in mind a paramilitary domestic security force. Among many other problems, such a force is, frankly, creepy and dangerous. But it's difficult to express a fear of a large domestic paramilitary devoted largely to a Cult of Personality without bringing up the H-word. Maybe the H-word is appropriate-- but it sounds nuts. It Can't Happen Here and all that. So the difficulty is formulating a response which doesn't sound crazy. (...) We should press Obama to explain why such a thing is necessary -- and get him to be more specific (...) Why does Obama wish to divert recruits from the military? (...) What is Obama's goal here if not to undermine one of the main attractors of military service? (...) Getting to the creepy point: Let us concede that Obama is not Hitler the H-word and has no H-word-like designs. Even so, the idea of a permanent paramilitary for, um, "responding to emergencies" is worrisome. (...) Does Obama intend to impose military-style discipline and justice on his Obama Youth? Obama's devoted cultists have already been caught abusing their jobs in the civil service -- digging dirt on political enemies, bullying a girl whose dad serves in Iraq. Why would we wish to swell the ranks of such hyperpartisan civil servants? Interreligious Dialogue: east is east and west is west ...

The perils of 'interpreting' Islamic ideas into Western culture lay not in translation, but in concepts behind the word. Postmodernists have the added problem, to believe behind language is only more language, not concepts. Ibrahim here gives the example of zakat = charity, which it apparently is not. Infamous is also "well, Islam is a religion so it must be good". In "How the Islamist Mindset Rationalizes - and Promotes - 'Sex Sins'" he's dealing with chastity (or lack thereof).

Middle East Forum: "When Will Westerners Stop Westernizing Islamic Concepts?", by Raymond Ibrahim"

Recently, Cathy Lynn Grossman of USA Today wrote an article about Muslim zakat, wherein I was referenced as a "critic of Islam." She then followed up with another article titled "Critic questions the aims and ends of Islamic charity," dedicated to examining my views on zakat.

While I appreciate Ms. Grossman's initiative, what especially interests me is that her response exemplifies the problems originally highlighted in my article, "The Dark Side of Zakat: Islamic Charity in Context," which Ms. Grossman takes to task.

I had written: "From what American schoolchildren are being taught by their teachers to what Americans are being told by their presidents, concepts unique to Islam are nowadays almost always 'Westernized.'… [T]his phenomenon has resulted in epistemic (and thus endemic) failures, crippling Americans from objectively understanding some of Islam's more troublesome doctrines."

It is, therefore, a bit ironic that Ms. Grossman's entire article is a testimony to this phenomenon. For starters, even though I indicated Muslims are actually forbidden from bestowing zakat onto non-Muslims, her opening sentence stubbornly describes zakat as a "mandate to be charitable." Surely "charity" that discriminates according to religion cannot be deemed all that "charitable," a word that, in a Western context, is connotative of universal beneficence. (...) >>>

Weasel Zippers: "Catholic Bishops Say Islamic Tenets Violate Internationally Enshrined Women's Rights, Want Church to Exercise "Caution" in its Relations With Islam....."

They're basically saying Islam's rotten to the core, Muslims can't change the fundamental doctrine of their "religion"...which is exactly what they're criticizing. Note: The Archdhimmi Rowan Williams must be horrified.....

Catholic bishops attending a synod at the Vatican have said Islam does not respect internationally enshrined women's rights, the ANSA news agency reported, quoting a spokesman. The criticism that Islamic tenets flout the principles of the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights came during a meeting of Spanish-speaking bishops at the three-week gathering, the report said.

The Catholic church, in its relations with Muslims, "should keep in mind their conception of marriage and the family, which does not accord women the rights contained in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights", said the spokesman, Julian Carron, quoting from a summary of the discussion. For this reason, the bishops called on the church to exercise "caution" in its efforts at rapprochement with Islam, Carron said.

NYSun: "Saudi King's Religion Conference Ends on Sour Note"

(...) the most significant effect of the conference, the observers say, may ultimately be within Saudi Arabia, where the king's example of personally greeting rabbis, priests, and leaders of other faiths, will be interpreted as a call to moderation directed to the most conservative among Saudi Arabia's clergy, which is dominated by the Wahhabi movement of Sunni Islam. One complaint, which two participants voiced on condition of anonymity, is that the communiqué called for the Muslim World League to select some of the delegates for the suggested upon United Nations conference on interfaith dialogue.

Mitt Romney 2012: roadmap to victory

NewsMax: "Mitt Romney Offers Bold Blueprint for America With 'No Apology'", by Mitt Romney

Former Massachusetts governor and 2008 presidential candidate Mitt Romney is offering a dramatic new blueprint for the nation to confront our most critical issues. Newsmax is pleased to present exclusive excerpts from Gov. Romney’s just-released book, “No Apology: The Case for American Greatness." In “No Apology,” Gov. Romney exposes how the Obama administration and even the Republican Party are failing to confront budget deficits, declining global competitiveness, a weakened military, inadequate healthcare, failing education, and our energy needs. In this exclusive excerpt for Newsmax.com, Gov. Romney discusses how he came to the realization that America needed to be set back on track:

I’ve run for office three times, losing twice, winning once. Each time, when the campaign was over, I felt that I hadn’t done an adequate job communicating all that I had intended to say. Some of that is because debate answers are limited to sixty seconds, ads are thirty seconds, and lengthy position papers are rarely read at all.

This book gives me a chance to say more than I did during my campaign. That established, my interest in writing the book goes back well before my political life. My career in the private sector exposed me to developments abroad and conditions at home that were deeply troubling. (...) >>>

Politico: "Mitt Romney rising: His team awaits 2012"

Mitt Romney says publicly he’s not considering another presidential campaign, most recently on Sunday during an appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” But many of his loyalists expect one and remain at the ready for 2012When dozens of former Romney aides and advisers convened on the terrace of Charlie Spies’ fashionable Penn Quarter loft earlier this year on a warm February night, the purpose was ostensibly to help raise money for the Virginia state House race of Romney strategist Barbara Comstock.
But Spies, formerly the Romney campaign’s CFO, wasn’t just hosting a $100 per-head fundraiser. He was also staging a Romney political family reunion, as advertised by his email invitation subject line, “The Romney gang back together,” and the special $50 cut-rate fee for former campaign staffers meant to draw some of the junior aides. The buzz that night was unmistakable among the 80 or so former Romney operatives present.
“He was tanned, rested and ready,” said one former campaign aide of his old boss. For the Romney team, it’s not too much of a stretch to say that the campaign never really ended. (...) >>>
